Loyalist paramilitaries admit Ulster shooting
Victim gunned down at nightclub

THE Loyalist Volunteer Force has claimed responsibility for shooting dead the
husband of Gerry Adams' niece, at a nightclub owned by a sister-in-law of top
Ulster loyalist David Ervine. Father-of-two Terry "Junior" Enwright, 28, died
after being hit in the chest and stomach. He was the third Catholic to be
murdered in revenge for the INLA killing of LVF leader Billy Wright at the Maze
Prison at Christmas.
The LVF in a statement said the killing was in direct response for Wright's
murder. It called on the Irish government to drop articles two and three of its
constitution which it said was an illegal claim over Northern Ireland. The
republic should stop interfering in the north, it added. The statement added:
"The Loyalist Volunteer Force is not against peace, but not peace at any
price." Mr Enwright, a community worker in the Catholic Turf Lodge area of
Belfast, was married to a niece of the Sinn Fein president. He had been working
at the nightclub near the centre of Belfast to earn extra money for renovations
to his home on the Upper Whiterock Road in the west of the city.
He died minutes after being gunned down outside the Space nightclub in Talbot
Street, just yards from the Protestant St Anne's Church of Ireland Cathedral.
The gunmen's getaway car, a red Ford Sierra, was later found abandoned in the
Loyalists east Belfast area. Sinn Fein president Mr Adams spoke about the death
of Mr Enwright. He said: "This young man was a valued member of this community.
He was married to a niece of mine, but that should not be used as an excuse for
killing him. "He was heavily involved in community affairs and with young
people. He was a good, or as he probably thought, a brilliant gaelic footballer
and he came from a community and families have suffered an awful lot."
